Snapense
Privacy Policy
Effective May 29, 2026 · Last updated May 29, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what data Snapense (“the app,” “we,” “us”) collects, how we use it, who can see it, and how you can delete it. Snapense is a personal expense tracker with optional AI receipt scanning. We built it to be private by default: your records belong to you, and we do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Information we collect
We only collect what the app needs to function. Specifically:
Account information
- Email and password when you sign up with email, handled by our auth provider (Supabase). We never store your password in plain text.
- Google account details (name, email address, profile picture, and Google account ID) if you choose to sign in with Google.
Financial data you enter
- Expenses: amount, merchant, date, category, optional note, and payment method.
- Budgets and custom categories you create.
- Your chosen currency and app preferences (theme, daily-reminder setting).
Receipt images and documents
- Photos or PDF receipts you choose to upload. These are stored in a private storage bucket scoped to your account.
Technical and usage data
- A push-notification token (and your device platform, e.g. Android) only if you enable reminders, so we can deliver notifications.
- AI scan usage counts, used solely to enforce the daily scan limit (50 scans per day on the shared key).
- An optional personal Gemini API key, if you paste one in Settings. It is stored encrypted on our server and is never displayed back to you or shared.
We do not collect your location, contacts, advertising identifiers, or unrelated files.
How we use your information
- To create and secure your account and keep you signed in.
- To store and display the expenses, budgets, and categories you create.
- To extract text from receipts you scan (see AI processing below).
- To send the daily reminder notification, if you enable it.
- To enforce fair-use limits on the shared AI scanning key.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond running the app.
Receipt scanning & AI processing
When you scan a receipt, the receipt image is sent to Google’s Gemini API to extract text (merchant, amount, line items, date). We send only the receipt image for this purpose — never your email, account details, or unrelated data. Google processes the image to return the extracted text; please refer to Google’s Gemini API terms for how they handle it. If you provide your own Gemini API key, scans use your key directly.
Service providers we use
We rely on a small set of trusted processors to run Snapense:
- Supabase — authentication, database, and file storage (privacy policy).
- Google (Gemini API & Sign-In) — receipt text extraction and optional Google login (privacy policy).
- Expo — delivery of push notifications, if you enable reminders (privacy policy).
These providers process data only to provide their service to us. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to anyone.
How your data is protected
- All traffic between the app and our servers uses encrypted HTTPS connections.
- Every record is protected by row-level security scoped to your account — only you can read your data.
- Receipt files live in a private bucket keyed to your user ID.
- Any personal API key you provide is stored encrypted at rest.
No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to safeguard your information.
Data retention & deletion
We keep your data only while your account exists. You can delete everything at any time:
- In the app: go to Settings → Delete account. This permanently removes your expenses, budgets, categories, receipt files, AI usage logs, and your account. The action is immediate and cannot be undone.
- By request: email jabbaswork@gmail.com and we will delete your data.
Full step-by-step instructions are on our data deletion page.
Your rights
You can access and edit your data inside the app at any time, export your expenses as a CSV file (Settings → Export), and delete your account and all associated data. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA; to exercise any of them, contact jabbaswork@gmail.com.
Children’s privacy
Snapense is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will remove it.
International data transfers
Our service providers may process and store data on servers located outside your country. By using Snapense you consent to such transfers, which are protected by the safeguards those providers maintain.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app. Continued use of Snapense after an update means you accept the revised policy.
